Fleischpflanzerl

Tonights dinner were Fleischpflanzerl with a side of Ratatouille and Potatoes.  What are Fleischpflanzerl? Well they are a Bavarian speciality - basically a pan fried, flattened meatball. Typically they are made out of a mixture of ground beef, pork and/or lamb. However I only had ground beef on hand tonight, but they turned out delicious and got the approval from hubs.  So, what else goes in these little Fleischpflanzerl?

Today my ingredients included the following:
Onion
Garlic
Duck egg
Paprika sweet & spicy
Caraway seeds
Salt & pepper
20% ground

I threw everything into a bowl, kneaded it well and then fried the little guys.

For my Ratatouille I omitted the Aubergine (also known as eggplant) since no one in our family can stand them.  I sautéed onion & garlic in butter, added a good handfull of frozen, whole Roma tomatoes that were still leftover from our garden.  Once the tomatoes had dethawed I added tomato paste, and seasoned it with dried basil, thyme, marjoram and salt & pepper and let everything simmer for a while. Since we like our veggies with a bit of a bite to them, I added sliced zucchini and bell peppers just long enough to soften up.
