First Fair Isle project - A Stocking

Hubs already asked me last year to knit him a stocking for Christmas. But he was very particular in what he wanted and we never found a pattern to his liking and time ran away from me.

Well this year again I asked him what he wanted and he replied with: "A snowflake stocking, but I want snowflakes NOT stars."  So off to Ravelry I went and searched for patterns.  His finally choice was Snowflake Study Stocking by Susan Springett. There are so many different forms of snowflakes snowing down on it, making it a pleasure to look at.

The pattern  was absolutely fun to work, it being my first Fair Isle project.  The chart is a little on the small side, and I miss-counted a couple of times, but it has just enough written instructions that it was easy to follow.  I made two modifications: I used magic-loop instead of dpns and the cuff - I just knit in white for several rounds till it curled in upon itself and then I tacked down the roll.

All in all, I think my first Fair Isle project turned out great. I am fascinated with the inside of it.

Now off to make a second for my son, with lots of modifications - stripes and only the big snowflake ...
